Happy (belated) V-day everyone. In all honesty I think Valentine’s Day is for suckers, but I was a sucker this year. Austin sent flowers to my office and showed up with a home-cooked (and iron rich!) meal in the evening since I had to work late. He even put on a pair of Jake’s hand-me-down red suspenders which he hates, but knows I love. I found it all very sweet and wonderful, mostly because it was so unexpected. People say, “I don’t need a holiday to be nice to my spouse…,” but maybe sometimes we do. It’s nice to remember why we put the effort into something as inconvenient as a relationship. It doesn’t have to be about a hallmark card. It can just be about saying, “hey, I still really like you.”
In other news, we said goodbye to our very dear friends Carrie and Jake tonight. They are about to embark on a grand adventure, but we will miss them terribly. Carebear is one of those few kindred spirits that I’ve found in my life, and even though I’m sure we’ll be in regular communication–there will still be a great big hole in my life while she’s away. I admit I hate to cry over people (it seems unproductive), but I couldn’t help shedding some tears over this girl! I support the journey they are taking, but come back soon!

Thank you both for your very real friendship and true blue selves. Baby Baer is lucky to have such great role models (even if he/she doesn’t meet you for a few years). Even though you’ll be far away, we’re right there with you. Love!
