It’s obvious by now that the Olympics are kind of a big deal around here.

Will you be watching the opening ceremonies tonight?

Bloom by Kelle Hampton

There was a lot of hype over this book, so I feel bad giving it a solid B-. It’s kind of like the time I hated on Elizabeth Gilbert. Everyone was like, “not cool, not cool.” But what am I supposed to say? I thought about lying and saying it was better than it was, but I can’t think of anything worse than a dishonest book review.

To be fair, I sobbed through the prologue (you can read it here) and did enjoy the rest of the book. It just wasn’t what I thought it would be and to be honest, she was a little braggy about her amazing relationships. I kept looking for the cracks. Bottom line: I wouldn’t not recommend it, but I wouldn’t recommend it either (but definitely read the prologue).

  1. Thanks for laughs – love me some LL!

I’m definitely more invested in the Olympics this year because a friend of mine is running the marathon for the US Women’s team. My husband sent me this article this morning about the partying that goes on in the Olympic village – so crazy!! I had no idea. Sounds like some adult version of summer camp.

I felt the same way about Bloom. The Prologue was amazing (Sob City), but I actually didn’t really read the end – I just sort of skimmed it – because I was just so OVER IT by then.

    Eat, Pray, Love was stupid.

    *ducks for cover*

  3. you and me both with some w. fitzsimmons on our blog today! score.

also, agreed on bloom. i hate to say it but i got bored and didn’t even finish it. the beginning though gets me every time, just like the story did on her actual blog. but beyond that, meh.

that man! dad/grand-dad/etc.?! i am going to need to read more about that.

also, waylon with the animals on his butt while sleeping? they’re my favorite IG’s these days.

Loved the Friends over 30 article. It is so true! After moving to Charleston and then to Lancaster, we find our friend pool more the size of an inflatable pool. I find myself going back to NYC often just to connect with my childhood friends. Glad to know Rob and I are not the only ones that are experiencing this.

i’m sorry, this may make me a horrible, judgmental person, but I couldn’t get past great granddaddy’s/grand daddy’s/daddy’s jeans…and don’t even get me started on the mental images of his wiener once the words vasectomy reversal popped up in the article. each to their own…

  6. Dara

When I saw the article about the granddad, at first I thought the granddaughter was his daughter. Her mom looked younger than 35!

Also, is it just me, or did all those little ones look close enough to be brothers? Two of them were almost identical.

Haven’t read Bloom but I didn’t really have an interest in it. Something tells me though my book club will read it at some point or another. We read Eat, Pray, Love and I HATED that book. Like throw-across-the-room hate. She was just so vapid and self-centered…I couldn’t take it. :P Harsh, but true.

also, what were you guys all dressed up for?

  8. Everytime I look at IG and see a Waylon sleeping picture I just die. He is the cutest thing ever.

  9. Danielle

I’m super excited about the Olympics this year. I’ve never really gotten into them before, so I don’t know why I care this year. But I doohoo.

I’m in love with the stuffed animals on sleepy baby butt photos. I may have to copy.

I was planning to read Bloom next. Maybe I’ll just read the prologue and save myself the trouble?

Dude with kid/grandkid/greatgrand. I dunno. Weird. But I don’t want to judge, cause really it could happen to anyone. Mostly I couldn’t handle his old man clothes. I guess I’m used to seeing E’s Mike looking all classy, so this guy just didn’t measure up.

Love the pin. That kid is badass.

  10. Bethany Smith

Thanks for being honest in your book review. I loved the book but it’s better for you to say how you feel than to lie to your readers. I appreciate that about this blog!

  11. Rachel M.

    Haters gonna hate. LOVING IT.

I need to make that chai ASAP.

  13. That unicorn photo is a gift unto the world.

Looking forward to reading your linkies…

  14. Rebekah

Chai was awesome! I was just looking for a recipe so this was perfect timing.

  15. I feel so much better knowing I wasn’t the only one who felt that way about Bloom. I couldn’t make myself finish it.

  16. Oh I had really high expectations for that book Bloom! But you’re right…I can’t stand those people who every single person in their life can do no wrong…not realistic! If you get a sec, I’d love to hear your thoughts on my latest blog posts.

Fortunately I read Gilbert’s second book,”Committed”, first. It was much better than Eat, Pray, Love. Didn’t really like that movie either – Julia Roberts is much too big of a persona for the role she played, if you know what I mean.
