Recently Southbound
We’re going on vacation.
We leave tonight at 10pm to drive 9 hours through the night with a one year old. Did I mention we’ll be in a minivan with 7 passengers? Please say encouraging things like, “Of course he’ll sleep.” I’m still delusional.

Speaking of cheesy, I saw this on Pinterest and decided to make my own.
I’m not that impressed.

Recently Watching Previews
I’m a trailer junkie, always have been. Here are two I’m looking forward to:
$ellebrity, a documentary examining the price we pay as a society for indulging our curiosity with celebrity gossip culture.
Anna Karenia, based on Tolstoy’s stirring tale of love and marriage in imperial Russia.

Birth photographers on the rise.
The New York Times covered it here. Your thoughts?
We didn’t have a birth photographer, but some days I wish I would have. In fact, some days I wish I would have videotaped the birth. At the time it seemed horrifying, but now I feel nostalgic.

Recently Heartwarmed
Some news is good news.
Seven-year-old Charlotte Neve suffered a brain hemorrhage in April, and two operations to stop the bleeding later left her in a coma from which she wasn’t expected to recover.
But when Charlotte’s mom climbed into bed with her for a final goodbye cuddle, Adele’s ”Rolling in the Deep” came on the radio, and Leila Neve ”started singing it to her because she loves her and we used to sing that song together.”
Miraculously, Charlotte started smiling.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Neve says. “It was the first time she had reacted to anything since the hemorrhage. The nurses were astounded and told me to keep singing, and she smiled again.”
Two days later, Charlotte was speaking. Now, two months later, she’s back in school. A miracle. Thanks Adele and Jesus! {Source}

I love end of the week snacks! Thanks for putting them together, even though it’s a pain. Speaking of Bachelorette recaps, have you ever read (former Bachelor contestant) Ashley Spivey’s? She’s my favorite. http://thebachelor.warnerbros.com/news/ashley-spivey%E2%80%99s-bachelorette-blog-episode-6/
Thanks for helping out this week!
Ashley is great. I usually do read her recap, but I hadn’t this week. She’s pretty funny. I liked her season.
I went back and read Due Date. That’s about how I feel now. I’ve stopped complaining about anything to the doctor because I’m tired of hearing ” yes, as your belly gets bigger…”. I decided to have them strip my membranes yesterday, but they couldn’t because I’m still closed. Poop. I’ve started saying things like “I’m only wearing this one dress, or, I’m not getting a shower again until it’s born” as if it will leave me because I’m too grungy! But reading where you were last year and seeing all the pictures of Waylon now gives me hope. It can’t stay in there forever!
You’re right, tt can’t stay in there forever…but it feels like forever. Those last few weeks are the worst. Thee worst. Hang in there, he or she will be out soon (I know that’s annoying to hear, but there’s really nothing else to say).
I watched a lot of movies (a lot of long, boring movies) to pass the time. It was too hot outside. There was a span of a few days I never set foot outside my air conditioned apartment. That seems ridiculous now.
Holy. That Adele story has got me stunned with tears and goosebumps. Thanks for sharing that!!
Good luck on your trip!! :)
Seriously, these Friday snacks make Friday so much better. Thanks for putting it together. The trailers, the Adele story, the book reccomendations (previous posts), the Friday funnies….GOLDMINE.
I saw that date DIY on Pinterest too. Yours doesn’t look bad, but I bet I’d be underwhelmed too. I guess I’ll just stick with pinning things and then never doing them.
I love recently caught on camera!
I also kinda wish we would have videoed the birth–but in the moment I was TOTALLY against it. Next time? (for you…I’m done)
The picture of the runner helping the other runner came from a school less than 30 minutes from here. She was on the news for awhile and the girl always looked so humble. She definitely makes me have some hope about our generation and the one behind us.
As for the birth photographers….no thanks. Considering I was one of those who pooed at the same time (yeah, TMI right there) I don’t want some random person taking pictures of that too :P LOL.
have a great time on vacation! and happy early bday to waylon! what a crazy year it’s been. I have full confidence that Waylon will sleep the majority of the drive… and when he’s awake he will be a happy/giggling delight to all passengers. I’m sure of it. ;) xo.
Those 21 pictures made me cry…I love happy, faith-restoring moments!
I am sooo curious as to how Waylon did on the ride! My husband and I are going to be driving through the night to a beach 9 hours away from our house in August, and I’m going to be praying that the kids are able to sleep.
Any tips or advice you have would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Hope you have an awesome vacation!
God, your Friday bites are great! I’ve just discovered your blog on E (tells tales)’s recommendation and while reading through your archives I’ve been tearing up over the mushy videos :-)
