Recently On The Bandwagon
After all the hoopla, I finally broke down and watched PBS’s Masterpiece Classic, Downton Abbey.
Obviously you were right and it’s amazing.
Austin finds it mildly entertaining too, though he doesn’t appreciate the adopted phrases I now use around the house. Like – Would his lordship like a snack? Because her ladyship feels quite tired. Quite tired, indeed.

I’m pretty sure Mindy Kaling and I are destined to be best friends forever. I laughed the whole way through her memoir and am about to sit down and read it a second time. Yeah, it’s that funny.
A quote from my favorite chapter of the book, to wet your palette.
“Teenage girls, please don’t worry about being super popular in high school, or being the best actress in high school, or the best athlete. Not only do people not care about any of that the second you graduate, but when you get older, if you reference your successes in high school too much, it actually makes you look kind of pitiful, like some babbling old Tennessee Williams character with nothing else going on in her current life. What I’ve noticed is that almost no one who was a big star in high school is also big star later in life. For us overlooked kids, it’s so wonderfully fair.”

Clingy Babies
Recently when Baby Daddy leaves in the morning, Waylon crawls to the door and sobs hysterically. This leads me to believe that either a) he is an incredibly clingy baby or b) I am incredibly boring.

Recently 70 Degrees
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate winter?
Oh that’s right, I have. Which means when it’s 70 degrees for the first time in a long time–we get a little excited and spend all day outside.

Kony 2012
If you have Twitter, Facebook, or The Internet–you’ve probably already watched this incredible 30 minute video on Joseph Kony, leader of the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda. When I first watched it, it was around midnight and I was in bed ready to go to sleep. I made it about ten minutes in and then immediately paused it to first stop crying and then to forward it on to two of my best friends with a very dramatic message attached about this awful situation. They replied the next morning with nods of agreement but also with what I call a “morning perspective.” I admit I felt a little silly. I think it’s valid to be outraged, but overall–I’m just another person adding to what has been dubbed “slactivism” –an epidemic in this country (and something I’m fully aware I’m part of).
Basically, it’s complicated.
More on all that here and here.

Recently An Adventure
Carrie and I are starting an Internet Radio Station.
It’s been in the works for a few months now, but I figured I should mention it sometime since you and I are becoming such good friends.
You can check out our playlists at www.littlecityradio.com
We have a long way to go, but we’re excited about it. I hope you are too.

Music Video Progress
I recently wrote to an artist about making a music video out of his song.
He wrote back today with a big fat y-e-s.
Pretty pumped.
Happy Friday

Sometimes I wish everyday was Friday on this blog. I’m assuming the Mindy book is not a book for my mom ( but for my sister ). Birthdays coming up.
Not for moms. Well, not for my mom. Perfect sister gift 20-30 range.
Internet Radio sounds awesome.
Loved that book.
And thanks for linking to those articles about Koni. Slactivism. Yes. It’s crippling us and yet here I am doing nothing about it.
Kony from a non-violent perspective:

Number one made me LOL.
That picture of Waylon standing at the door just breaks my heart!
Thanks for linking to the Kony vid and articles. I guess I’m living under a rock. Hadn’t seen it!
Love the cake and Baby Daddy’s skinny tie.
Listening to little city radio playlist…now!
Great news about the music video. Should be fun to make :)
I can’t get enough of Downton Abbey.
If you need skewers for the bunting on that cake, talk to my mom. We just bunched up hundreds of them to sell at the shop. I’m sure she could spare a few.
Perfect.
Downton Abbey FTW!! :) I also found out one of my fav movies ever was written by the guy who wrote the Downton too.
Also there will be a third season of Downton set in the 1920s. Cannot. Wait.
What movie?
I still need to watch Season 2 but I can’t find it anywhere. Watched the first season via Netflix Watch Instantly. Must find!
LOVE Downton! A friend just recommended it to me last weekend, and I’ve already watched Season 1 on Netflix. Can’t wait till they upload Season 2!
I’m so impatient!
So was Baby Daddy correct with this predictions about Waylon’s birthdate and weight?
Absolutely not.
Hey. I don’t think anything of what IC does is considered slactivism at all, and I think it’s super important to watch this 6 minute video by the CEO of IC because it will help give a lot of perspective. I believe in what they’re doing, my brother works there, it’s beyond legit-so I hope
You’ll watch this. Hey, and bonus, the CEO is good looking :) http://vimeo.com/m/38344284
Oh, I don’t think IC is slactivism so much as I think everyone sitting behind a computer desk reposting links and then doing nothing is (me). At least IC is producing something and making change, no?
