Top Ten Party Guests (Also Known As: The Ultimate Dinner Party)

I have mentioned it before, but I’ll mention it again: I love playing host. It combines my affinity for compliments with my laziness leaving the house. It also gives me an excuse to buy fancy cheese.

Shamelessly inspired by The Bloggess, here is my list of the Top Ten guests I would invite to a dinner party. Let it be known that this is not the same as Barbara WaWa’s list of fascinating people. Just because someone is fascinating doesn’t mean they will make good company at your dinner party. Example: I’d like to meet the Dalai Lama, but I doubt we’d have much to talk about over crabcakes.

Obviously this would only be fun if you were all there to enjoy it with me/be incredibly jealous. Here’s my list. Happy Tuesday.

1. Jon Stewart (for the wit)

2. Glen Hansard (for the music)

3. Lisa Ling (for the smarts)

4. Zach Galifianakis (for the dry)

5. Garrison Keillor (for the stories)

6. Kate Winslet (for the beauty)

7. Steve Carell (for the jokes)

8. Julie Andrews (for the grace)

9. Russell Brand (for the crazy)

10. Tina Fey (for the awesomeness)

Who would you invite? I have to agree with Jenny when she says, “…if your list of the ten most fascinating people includes three Kardashians then you’re doing it wrong.”

Baby Daddy doesn’t get George Clooney? Rough.

  2. betty

    No Kardashians.

I WILL be inviting Steve Martin though, thank you very much.

  3. @ betty: Yes!
@ cara: Double yes! I had to bump him for Steve…but Alec is a favorite.

  4. Sister

I love the black and white pictures. I would add James Franco (for the drool-factor), and Michael Cera (to witness the conversation between him and Zach G.)

  5. Bess

Holy awesome list. Especially love the additions of russell and julie. Awesome.

  6. Hannah

Amazing list. I want to come and sit next to Russell.

    Jason Bateman!

  7. Sara Levenson

    Excellent.

Jennifer Lawrence, Bon Iver, Modern Family cast, Obama!

  8. Grams

    Love Lisa Ling!!!

  9. Bec

Great choice w/ Lisa Ling! I would choose her as well.
And also Jerry Seinfeld. Mat Kearney. And the sister wives? Because I have a million questions for them.

  10. Heather

I admit, first I was snubbed that I did NOT make this list. But my graciousness won out. AND I realized you have Tina Fey and Julie Andrews and those two people equal one of me! so it worked anyway!

  11. Shauna

I need an invite to this party.

  12. Louisa

I would love to witness the convo between Julie and Russell.

I would bring Bradley Cooper and Anderson Cooper!

  13. um, this is a good list. zach g. yes! tina fey yes! lisa ling yes! garisson k. yes! and i’ve actually hung out with him a few times real-life. so you can go ahead and be jealous.

  14. This is so fun! I would totally play this in my head before I go to sleep.

I would invite Jennifer Garner because she seems to have a foot planted in real life and glamor stardom. And she could bring her hubby so I could stare in bashful adoration. And their kids are the same ages as mine, so they would go off and play. or wait, would I have gotten a babysitter?

And I would invite Sandra Boynton, the children’s book author – her humor really cracks me up (bonus: the kids love her too). And maybe she could bring some of her musicians (Meryl Streep – oh yes) to give a little Philadelphia Chickens performance after dinner.

  15. Tamara

    Steve Carell!!!!
