Hello and Welcome to Motley Mama!
Motley: Exhibiting great diversity of elements; varied, mixed, out of the ordinary.
When I first started blogging it was to reflect, record, and update close friends and family about my post graduate life. Eventually this expanded to commenting on current events, posting interesting media, and at the end of 2010, share news and updates about Baby Baer. Over the past few years, I’ve picked up a few extra readers along the way and have combined my blogs into a .com project (and let’s face it—way to stay sane) while I’m home with a baby.
There are lots of Mommy blogs. Don’t believe me? Check out this list. I think part of it is due to a national movement back to domesticity. Only this time, we want to do it without the Prozac. Staying connected to others is a way many women cope with the realities of motherhood, and blogging is an easy way to do so.
Motley Mama is not just about the baby, though he is certainly one of our main attractions. Instead, it is about navigating motherhood (and other feats) through the lens of an inexperienced but enthusiastic woman with a motley assortment of interests and passions. It is about throwing out the stale (and frankly dull) idea of “stay at home mom” and embracing it as an adventure.
Sound cheesy? That’s fair. The bottom line is that like every new parent, I have no idea what I’m doing. Past experience tells me that I’ll be learning things the hard way when it comes to parenting, but I’m okay with that. I’m so glad I have you to share these mishaps with. Thank you for following along with this motley mama and her daily quest not to screw things up.

Yay! I like this blog already.
